  • The Meteorological, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded 112 aftershocks to have occurred from 7 to 19 December 2016.

  • As of yesterday evening (20 December), the death toll is 104 people where 100 people have been identified.

  • A total of 18,752 houses were reportedly damaged and 85,256 people were displaced.

  • The second ERAT Team has been demobilized on 21 December 2016.

2. SUMMARY OF DISASTER EVENT

A 6.5 M Earthquake shook Sigli City, Aceh Province, Indonesia at 05:03 (UTC +7) with a shallow depth of 10 km. No Tsunami warning was issued. The earthquake was felt strongly in Pidie, Pidie Jaya and the surrounding districts. Based on the National Statistics Bureau (BPS), the total population in Pidie District is around 425,974 while in Pidie Jaya District, it is 151,472. Based on the record of the ASEAN Disaster Information Network (ADINet), the area had been affected by earthquakes in the past. The most recent was in October 2013, when a 5.6 M earthquake shook Pidie District.

Based on latest report, dated 20 December 2016, the earthquake has caused 104 deaths and damaged 18,752 houses in total. Currently, 397 people are still having medical treatment at the hospitals in Pidie, Pidie Jaya and Biereun Districts. A total of 85,256 people are still staying in the evacuation places in Pidie Jaya, while all evacuees in Biereun and Pidie have already returned homes or stayed with their relatives.

The local government and BPNB have initiated the meeting to discuss about the Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Action Plan on 19 December.
