Flood water from the Bengawan Solo River in Surakarta, Central Java, might hit the downstream area in East Java, from Bojonegoro, Tuban, Lamongan, to Gresik, on Tuesday night.
Head of the technical implementing unit of the Water Resources Management at Bengawan Solo in Bojonegoro, Agus Bachtiar, predicted that if it rains in Surakarta and Bojonegoro, the downstream area would be inundated
It would take 40 hours before the flood water reached Bojonegoro, antaranews.com reported.
In anticipation of the floods, the alternative water gates in Sedayu Lawas, Lamongan, have been opened to allow the water to flow into the Java Sea.
As long as it did not rain, the flood water would be under control, Agus said.
On Monday night, the flood water in Jurug, Surakarta, receded with the height reducing from 11 meters to about seven meters.
