Five killed by landslide in Indonesia's Central Java

JAKARTA, Oct 27, 2009 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Five people died and two others were injured after a landslide hit Indonesia's Pati regency of Central Java province at dawn Tuesday, the Elshinta online news reported here.

The landslide hit a cliff that collapsed on three houses at Kedungwinong village of Sukolilo sub regency, Pati regency.

The report said that the sudden incident prevented the victims from running for their lives.

One of the victims' relative, Suyadi, told Elshinta that he heard a strong noise and people screaming for help when the accident happened.

Starting rainy season poses threat for mountainous areas in Indonesia. It is aggravated by illegal logging that poses other threats like flood and drought in dry season.
