The death toll following the rain-triggered floods and landslide in the West Java region around Garut last week has reached 10 people, while three others remain missing, an official has said.
“We record the data of the victims at our command post, and the data says 10 people have died,” West Java Disaster Mitigation Agency head Sigit Udjwalaprana said Monday in Garut, as quoted by Antara.
Four persons from Cikelet and Pameungpeuk districts died as a result of the floods, while five Cikelet residents died in the landslide. Officials haven’t been able to identify one victim or the cause of death.
At least six other persons are being treated in hospital for heavy injuries caused either by the flooding or the landslide, which affected six districts in Garut and damaged hundreds of houses, 43 bridges, five school buildings, 36 mosques and hectares of paddy fields.
