By: Antonius Eko Sugianto

The Management Board members of the KARINA Foundation (Caritas Indonesia) changed at the beginning of this year. Several new names come to continue the service in the 2023 – 2027 period.

Mgr. Pius Riana Prapdi, the Bishop of Ketapang Diocese, in this period served as Vice President, and Fr. Edi Mulyono, SJ as Secretary of the Executive Board with three other new members, that are Aloysius Setyo Handoyo Singgih, Gatot Sewandhono, and Harapan Ali Bernadus. Mgr. Aloysius Sudarso, SCJ remains the Chairperson of the Executive Board or President of Caritas Indonesia while Mgr. Petrus Turang is the Chair of the Supervisory Board.

This assignment was announced directly by the Chair of the Governing Board of KARINA Foundation, Mgr. A.M. Sutrisnaatmaka, MSF, at the Foundation meeting in Wisma Kemiri, Central Jakarta, January 20, 2023, which was attended by 9 bishops of the Go-verning, Supervisory and Executive Boards.

On this occasion, M.J.L. Sri Murniati, familiarly known as Ibu Murni, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the KARINA Foundation. During her service, she has seen positive progress and hopes that the Foundation will continue to develop further. She said that she would continue to love this institution even if she was no longer member of the Executive Board.

“Beloved Bishops and all members of the Boards. My attention to KARINA, of course, does not stop here. Thank you for giving me the opportunity so far, to be able to get extraordinary learning together, in which the Foundation has grown very positively," said Ibu Murni.

Apart from her, there are also board members of the 2018-2022 period that have been replaced, namely: Fr. I. Swasono SJ, Fr. Emanuel Embu SVD, and H. Y. Susmanto. Their dedication is truly significant for the foundation.

Expressing appreciation to them, Chair of the Governing Board, said that they had made a very significant contribution to the development of the KARINA Foundation.

"On behalf of the entire Board members, we thank you very much. There are no words other than thank you," said this Bishop of Palangkaraya Diocese.

Since its establishment on 17 May 2006, the KARINA Foundation (Caritas Indonesia) has experienced a number of changes in membership on the Governing Board, Supervisory Board and Executive Board. Those who have ever been part of the Management Boards include the late Mgr. Martinus Situmorang OFMCap, the late Mgr. Hubert Leteng, and the late Mgr. Lodovikus Simanullang, OFMCap.

In this period of 2023 - 2027, five new bishops joined the KARINA Foundation. Apart from Mgr. Riana, there are Mgr. Siprianus Hormat (Secretary of the Governing Board), Mgr. Samuel Oton Sidin, OFM. Cap, (member), Mgr. Paskalis Bruno Syukur, OFM, (member), and Mgr. Fransiskus Tuaman Sinaga (member of the Supervisory Board).

Addressing the meeting, Vice Chairperson of Caritas Indonesia, Mgr. Riana underlined what Pope Francis said, that Caritas is not an NGO. He emphasized that Caritas is a Church's Socio Pastoral Church service that manifests the merciful face of God. "I remember what Pope Francis once said, that we should not become an NGO," said Mgr. Riana. (mdk)
