AHA Centre Flash Update #1 - Tropical Depression Cempaka & Tropical Cyclone Dahlia, Indonesia

  • AHA Centre is monitoring the impacts of Tropical Depression (TD) Cempaka (95S) & Tropical Cyclone (TC) Dahlia (96S), including secondary hazards.

  • 21 cities/regencies were affected in southern Java between 27 and 28 November 2017 by TD Cempaka (95S) which resulted in:  heavy rainfall, floods and landslides  Info sources: 1, 2, 3

  • Governor of DK Yogyakarta declared disaster alert on 29 November, calling upon the district and municipal government to use reserve funds to address needs of affected individuals.

  • Southern Sumatra and Western Java was affected between 29 and 30 November by TC Dahlia (96S) which resulted in  heavy rainfall, floods and landslides

  • For the latest position and forecast of TD Cempaka and TC Dahlia, do visit Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

  • Official figures stated that there were 11 deaths with >4,000 affected as a result of the floods and landslides brought upon by TD Cempaka.

  • Impacts of TD Cempaka & TC Dahlia are currently within the coping capacity of Indonesian local & national government agencies.
