• A flash flood hit nine (9) sub-districts in Sentani District, Jayapura Regency, in Papua Province at 9:30 P.M. on 16 March 2019 (Saturday). Since the flash flood occurred at night, when most of the residents are already sleeping, the affected communities were not able to prepare themselves.
• The Head of BNPB, Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Organisation (NDMO), has reported to the President the impact of the disaster and the handling of the situation. The Head of BNPB together with the other related Ministries / Institutions left for Sentani on 17 March 2019 to provide assistance to Jayapura and Papua BPBD, who are currently handling the emergency.
• The joint SAR team of BPBD, TNI, Polri, Basarnas, SKPD, PMI, and volunteers are still conducting evacuation, and Search & Rescue.
• The flash flood has already receded; however, access to all affected areas remain limited due to rocks, muds, and other debris that block roads and other access points.
• The impact of the damage is still expected to increase since data collection is still being carried out.
