U.S. announces Rs. 23,25,000 (USD $ 50,000) in humanitarian relief to Orissa flood victims

The United States Chargé d’Affaires to India, Ambassador Peter Burleigh, today announced an initial grant of Rs 23,25,000 (USD $ 50,000) as emergency relief for flood victims in Orissa.

On behalf of the American people, Ambassador Burleigh offered his condolences to the families of those killed in the flooding and his sympathy to the thousands of people affected.

The United States' contribution will complement the relief efforts of the Government of India in Orissa and will be closely coordinated with district-level officials.
