Highlights of the week (18-24 August)

• During the week, peninsular India received excess rainfall. However rainfall was deficient over many parts of east, northeast and central India.

• The All India rainfall during the week was 8% below long period average (LPA).

• Monsoon flow pattern in general remained weak during the week.

• Deficiency in seasonal rainfall for the country as a whole has remained 1% below LPA.

Synoptic features

• An upper air cyclonic Circulation lay over northwest Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood on 18 th . It moved across Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh,
Rajasthan & Gujarat and became less marked on 24 th .

• An upper air cyclonic circulation formed over northwest Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood on 24 th and persisted over same region on 25 th .

• Monsoon trough exhibited north-south oscillation with respect to its normal position during the week.

• The off-shore trough ran from Gujarat coast to Kerala coast during most days of the week

• One western disturbance also affected western Himalayan Region.
