SITUATION UPDATE

• On 5 th August 2025, a powerful cloudburst struck Dharali and surrounding areas in Uttarkashi district, triggering severe flash floods and landslides. The disaster caused extensive damage, sweeping away approximately 20–30 homes, shops, hotels, and roads, while severely impacting local infrastructure and daily life.

• The incident significantly affected the villages of Sukhi, Jaspur, Purali, Jhala, Harshil, Bagori, Dharali, and Kukhwa, with widespread damage to homes, roads, and agricultural assets. Connectivity across the region has been critically hampered due to washed-away roads and bridges.

• The confirmed death toll has increased to six, while over 50 civilians and 11 Army personnel remain missing. Some unofficial estimates suggest that the total number of missing individuals could exceed 100.

• Efforts are underway to restore access to cut-off regions. A Bailey bridge is currently being constructed to re-establish road connectivity. In preparation for medical emergencies, AIIMS Rishikesh has earmarked special wards, including its trauma center, to provide necessary care to those injured or rescued. • Meanwhile, on 6 August 2025, continuous heavy rainfall in Pauri Garhwal district led to a separate series of floods and landslides, adding further pressure to the state’s emergency response systems.

• In Bankura village, located in the Thalisain block, five labourers were reportedly swept away by a rapidly swelling stream and are currently missing. Two additional fatalities were confirmed in the district due to the extreme weather conditions.

• In the villages of Kalun (Pabo) and Kyard (Khatsyun Patti), the threat of landslides has placed several houses at immediate risk. In response, local authorities have evacuated residents of Kyard and relocated them to a nearby primary school, which has been converted into a temporary shelter.

• In a third incident, the Haridwar district reported flooding in Ghandikhata village, located in the Bahadrabad block. The rising waters affected the Van Gujjar community, with around 60 families displaced and in urgent need of relief support, including food, shelter, and medical care.

• The West Nayyar River overflowed due to excessive rainfall, leading to the complete destruction of a vital bridge that connected Thalisain and Pabo blocks. This bridge served as a crucial link to the district headquarters in Pauri, and its collapse has severely hampered movement and relief operations. Simultaneously, the Kalgarhi bridge on National Highway 121 also collapsed, leaving many interior villages further isolated.

• The impact on essential services has been severe. In Kothla village, under Sanji Gram Sabha, the entire drinking water supply system has failed, leaving residents without access to safe water. Furthermore, large parts of the district have been experiencing widespread power outages and mobile network failures since the morning of 6 August, which continues to complicate rescue coordination and communication efforts.
