SITUATION UPDATE
Assam:
• The flood situation in Assam has worsened considerably, with six more deaths reported on Tuesday, bringing the total number of fatalities due to floods and landslides this year to 17. The crisis has now affected over 6.33 lakh people across 21 districts, marking one of the most severe flood episodes in the state this year.
• The worst-affected district is Sribhumi, where 2,31,536 people have been impacted, followed by Nagaon (99,819 people affected), Cachar (89,344), and Lakhipur (43,651). In total, 1,506 villages spread across 69 revenue circles are currently inundated. The disaster has forced large-scale displacement, with over 2.57 lakh people seeking shelter either in 223 operational relief camps or at 288 relief distribution centres, which are also supplying food and essential items.
• The impact on agriculture has been severe, with 14,739 hectares of cropland submerged under floodwaters, leading to significant losses for farming communities. Infrastructure across the state has also suffered major damage, with 1,187 houses reported damaged—159 of them fully destroyed. The floods have breached two embankments, damaged three others, and disrupted key road, rail, and ferry services in several regions.
• Rivers across Assam remain dangerously swollen. Seven major rivers, including the Brahmaputra, are flowing above the danger level at several points. The Katakhal River has crossed its highest recorded flood level at Matizuri in Hailakandi district, exacerbating the crisis.
• Urban areas have not been spared. Kamrup district has witnessed flooding in at least seven municipal wards, including Srinathpatty, Murgipatty, and Santinagar, where water has entered homes and disrupted daily life. Relief distribution is actively underway in urban centres such as Guwahati and Dispur, with efforts being coordinated through local ward councillors to reach those affected.
• The floods have also had a substantial impact on livestock. An estimated 4,94,132 animals have been affected, including 1,62,600 large animals, and 151 animals have been washed away by the floodwaters.

• The state has recorded a staggering 598 landslides, the highest reported in the region so far affected 11 villages in 04 districts.
• A total of 171 houses have been damaged, while 244 houses had to be vacated due to structural risks. 119 families have been evacuated from flood-affected areas. The disaster has so far resulted in five casualties, and more than 500 people have been directly affected.
• The worst-affected districts include Khawzawl, Hnahthial, and Serchhip, where damage to infrastructure and disruptions to daily life remain severe.
