SITUATION UPDATE

• On August 5, 2025, at approximately 1:45 PM, a cloudburst over the Kheer Ganga catchment triggered a massive flash flood in Dharali village, located in Uttarkashi district. The deluge resulted in extensive destruction, sweeping away nearly 20-30 houses, shops, local markets, roads, and approximately 20 hotels and homestays. The affected area includes both local residents and tourists staying in the region.

• In a separate but related incident, a second cloudburst occurred later the same day in the Sukhi Top area near Dharali, further aggravating the situation through additional flash flooding and debris flow.

• As per initial media reports, at least 4 fatalities have been confirmed, and approximately 100 individuals are reported missing or potentially trapped under debris. Among the missing are 8 to 10 Indian Army personnel stationed at a camp in the lower Harsil area, highlighting the severity and scale of the impact.

• The road at Bhatwadi on the Uttarkashi-Harsil route has been completely washed away due to the flash floods, severely affecting accessibility to the Harsil region. Road connectivity remains disrupted as of the latest updates.

• In Barkot tehsil’s Banala Patti area, flash floods in the Kud Gadhera stream led to the loss of nearly 18 goats, affecting the livelihoods of local shepherds.

• In Haridwar district, continuous heavy rainfall led to severe waterlogging across multiple areas. With the Ganga River’s water level rising significantly, local police have advised residents and visitors to avoid the ghats and to remain vigilant.
