SITUATION UPDATE
Torrential rains have battered several states across Northeast India over the past week, triggering widespread floods and landslides. Multiple districts in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim, Meghalaya, and Tripura have reported severe damage to infrastructure, homes, and agricultural land. Rescue and relief efforts are underway, with armed forces and disaster response teams deployed in the worst-affected areas. Thousands have been evacuated and are currently housed in relief camps.
Arunachal Pradesh:
• In Arunachal Pradesh, eleven people have lost their lives and two persons are reported missing due to massive landslides triggered by incessant rainfall. A total of 23 districts, 156 villages, and 938 people have been affected across the state.
• In the last 24 hours alone, 7 districts have been severely impacted, including Lower Subansiri, Lower Dibang Valley, Namsai, Itanagar Capital Region (ICR),
Lohit, Pakke Kessang, and Kamle.
• A total of 168 houses have been damaged, comprising 114 katcha houses, 45 pucca houses, and 9 huts. Additionally, 5 livestock deaths have been reported.
• The ongoing weather has also affected 8 hectares of horticultural land and 7 hectares of agricultural land across the state.
Assam:
• More than 3,64,046 people across 19 districts of Assam have been affected by a wave of floods that disrupted road transport and train services on Sunday.
• Floodwaters have impacted 724 villages and submerged 3,524.38 hectares of cropland. A total of 10,272 flood-affected people are currently taking shelter in 156 relief camps and relief distribution centres set up by the district administration.
• According to a flood bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Sunday, one person died in Lakhimpur and two others in Golaghat in eastern Assam, bringing the total number of deaths due to floods and landslides in the state to 11.
• Lakhimpur is the worst-hit district, with over 46687 people affected.
• Additionally, 41,090 people have been affected by flash floods in urban centres across four districts and six revenue circles. Due to heavy rain, at least three trains were cancelled by the Northeast Frontier Railway in South Assam.
• Ten relief camps have also been set up in response to flash flooding, currently housing 464 inmates.
• 235193 animals are also affected by the flood in Assam, and 696 animals wshed away
