SITUATION UPDATE AND RESPONSE
Assam
• The flood situation in Assam has seen marginal improvement, with the number of affected people in 27 districts decreasing to around 18.80 lakh, officials said on July 9.
• According to reports from the IMD and SEOC Assam, moderate to heavy rainfall was observed in the state over the past 24 hours, with the highest rainfall recorded in Demaji (90 mm) and Bongaigaon (60 mm), and an average rainfall of 10.3 mm.
• The Central Water Commission (CWC) bulletin indicates that several rivers are still flowing above the danger level.
• These include the Brahmaputra at Neamatighat (Jorhat), Tezpur (Sonitpur), Kamrup, and Dhubri; the Subansiri at Badatighat (Lakhimpur); the Barak at Badarpur Ghat (Karimganj); the Buredehing at Margherita (Tinsukia) and Chenimari (Dibrugarh); the Sankosh at Golokganj (Dhubri); the Kushiyara at Karimganj; the Dikhou at Sivasagar; the Desang at Sivasagar; and the Kopili at Dharamtul (Marigaon).
• The death toll from this year's floods, landslides, and storms has risen to 85, with six more deaths reported on Monday.
• The current flood has affected a total of 30,83,830 people, with 3,154 villages submerged and 49,014.06 hectares of crop areas damaged.
• Dhubri remains the worst-hit district, with nearly 4.75 lakh people affected, followed by Cachar with over 2.01 lakh people, and Barpeta with nearly 1.36 lakh people affected.
• In terms of property damage, a total of 3,525 houses have been reported damaged, with 231 fully and 3,294 partially damaged.
• Essential services have been significantly disrupted, including road communication, telephone communication, water supply, electricity supply, and other criticalservices in the flood-affected districts.
• Additionally, over 15,18,600 domestic animals and poultry have been impacted by the widespread flooding across the state.
