SITUATION UPDATE

• On April 20th , 2025, the Ramban district in Jammu & Kashmir experienced intense rainfall, and cloudburst triggering sudden flash floods, mudslides, and landslides that caused widespread devastation across several villages.

• The flooding resulted in the loss of at least three lives, with the deaths reported from Baghana village following a house collapse.

• More than 45 houses were completely destroyed, and around 250 structures— comprising homes, shops, and public facilities—were partially damaged. Several vehicles and commercial establishments were swept away by floodwaters, adding to the mounting economic and infrastructural loss.

• The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), sustained extensive damage due to shooting stones and landslides. Multiple sections of the highway were either washed away or rendered impassable by debris, leaving thousands of commuters, including tourists and goods transporters, stranded at various points.

• Restoration efforts are underway, with authorities like BRO and PWD estimating that it may take up to three days to enable partial traffic movement.

• Simultaneously, alternative routes like Mughal Road and Sinthan Top were activated to reroute emergency supplies and traffic. Health facilities along these routes were placed on high alert, with all leaves cancelled to ensure uninterrupted medical services.

• The affected villages—including Seri, Bagna, Panote, Khari, Digdol, Nachlana, Mehar, and Chamalwas—have either become inaccessible or remain extremely difficult to reach due to road destruction and ongoing landslide threats.
