DETAILS OF THE EMERGENCY:
Since October 15 2008 there has been heavy rain across the state of Tamil Nadu, India. ACT member the United Evangelical Lutheran Church in India ( UELCI ) reported that water levels in reservoirs were near to over flowing, roads were flooded, 5000 livestock were killed, and nearly 15000 hectares of crops were destroyed. A total of 1500 houses were completely damaged. There has been a 30% rise in outpatient numbers due to the increase of influenza. Some 50 people are reported dead. Mostly the poor marginal farmers, labour class people and women of approximately 20,000 families are affected due to the flood situation in Tamil Nadu.
The Tamil Nadu State Government has supported very few families towards house repair, livestock purchase and food items. Most of the families have been left out with out any assistance. International Response: No international agencies have responded to this emergency.
