Heavy rain lashed several parts of the country, affecting normal life. Moderate rain hit various parts of the national capital in morning today.
The Southwest Monsoon has been active over east Uttar Pradesh, east Rajasthan, Gujarat Region, Madhya Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh and coastal Andhra Pradesh. The Met department had predicted Heavy to very heavy rain at a few places over Uttarakhand and at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, west Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi.
Heavy downpour cripples normal life in Odisha
Heavy rain lashed several parts of the country, affecting normal life. In Odisha, rain-related incidents claimed three lives yesterday. Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri and Rayagada districts are facing the flood-like situation, while Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri are grappling with waterlogging. Met officials have predicted more rain during the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the Central team led by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiran Rijiju expressed satisfaction over the flood relief operations in Kerala. The Minister said, 80 crore rupees have already been given as compensation and within 10 days, an expert committee from Centre will evaluate the situation in Kerala. He said the compensation package would be given to all those affected by the flood, based on prescribed guidelines. Rijiju was speaking to media persons after visiting the worst-hit districts Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Kottayam in Kerala. The toll in rain-related incidents in Kerala has gone up to 41 since the onset of monsoon on May 29. As many as 1.18 lakh people have taken refuge in 606 relief camps across Kerala as rains continued to batter several parts of the state.
