1. Background: -
- On 20.10.2024, a cyclonic circulation was reported lying over north Andaman Sea and adjoining areas of east-central & southeast Bay of Bengal at 0530 hrs. This has been converted into a low-pressure area over the eastcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Andaman Sea at 0530 hrs on 21.10.2024.
- On 22.10.2024, low-pressure area over eastcentral Bay of Bengal moved west-north westwards and intensified into a depression at 0530 hrs over the same region.
- The depression over eastcentral Bay of Bengal moved west-north westwards with a speed of 7 kmph and intensified into a Deep Depression and at 1730 hrs on 22.10.2024, over the same region.
- The deep depression over east-central Bay of Bengal moved west-north westwards with a speed of 18 kmph intensified into a cyclonic storm “DANA” (pronounced as Dana), at 0530 hrs on 23.10.2024, over the same region.
- The cyclonic storm “DANA” over east central & adjoining west central Bay of Bengal moved north-north westwards with a speed of 15 kmph and intensified into a severe cyclonic storm at 2330 hrs on 23.10.2024, over the same region.
- The Severe Cyclonic Storm “DANA” moved north-north-westwards and crossed the north Odisha coast close to Habalikhati Nature Camp (Bhitarkanika), district Kenderpada and Dhamara area, district Bhadrak during 0130-0330 hrs on 25.10.2024 as a Severe Cyclonic Storm with a wind speed of 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph.
- The severe cyclonic storm “DANA” moved north-north-westwards with a speed of 10 kmph and weakened into a Cyclonic Storm over north coastal Odisha at 0830 hrs on 25.10.2024.
- On 25.10.2024, it further weakened into a deep depression at 1430 hrs and further weakened into a Depression over north Odisha at 2330 hrs on same day.
- On 26.10.2024, it subsequently weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area over north Odisha.
