Brief regarding Landslide Incident District- Raigad, Maharashtra as on 21/07/2023 at 1800 hrs.

Brief :

  • As per report received from SEOC, Maharashtra, on 19.07.2023 at 2300 hrs (approx) an incident of Major Landslide occurred in village Irasal wadi, Tehsil-Khalapur, district- Raigad in Maharashtra. The village has reportedly 48 families with a population of 228 people. The region has received 499 mm of rainfall over last three days.

  • The village is in an extremely remote area and has no approach roads.

Current Situation:

  • 98 out of the total population of 228 people are reportedly safe and were not affected by the landslide.

  • 10 people have been reportedly injured who are being treated at the base camp set up at the foothills near the village and some are being treated at MGM hospital in Navi Mumbai.

  • 21 people have been reported to have died in the incident till now.

  • 04 teams of NDRF along with Sniffer dogs and necessary rescue equipments are conducting search and rescue operation.

  • Local trekking organizations are also helping rescue efforts.

  • Due to remoteness of the site, no vehicle can reach and a treacherous one hour trek is required to reach site of incident from the foothills where base camp has been set up. The helpline number at the base camp is 8108195554.

  • All relevant civil authorities are at the site and operations is going on continuously.

  • The assistance of the Air Force has been sought and 2 helicopters are on standby at the Santacruz airport in Mumbai. However due to extremely bad weather conditions at the site and in Mumbai, they are unable to take off. They will be pressed into operations at the first window of opportunity.

Step taken by the Central Government:

  • Situation is being monitored by Central Government.

  • MHA is in constant touch with the Central Ministries/Department concerned to render all necessary assistant as per requirement.

  • Both control room of MHA are monitoring the situation 24X7 and all possible help is being provided to the state.

Deployment of Armed Forces / NDRF:

  • 04 Teams of NDRF along with necessary equipments have been deployed for search and rescue operation at incident site.

  • 02 IAF helicopters are on standby at the Santacruz airport in Mumbai. However due to extremely bad weather conditions at the site and in Mumbai, they are unable to take off. They will be pressed into operations at the first window of opportunity.

Step taken by Government of Maharashtra:

  • Hon’ble Chief Minister accompanied by other Hon’ble Ministers – Shri Girish Mahajan, Shri Uday Samant, Shri Dada Bhuse, Shri Anil Patil , Ms Aditi Tatkare, local MLA Shri Mahesh Baldi along with District Collector, Divisional Commissioner and all other concerned district level officials are present at incident site.

  • The State Emergency Operations Center is coordinating the relief efforts centrally with the NDRF, Air force, Army and other concerned stakeholders for seamless coordination and effective response at the site.

  • All injured persons shifted to hospital for treatment.

  • SDRF, Fire Service, Police, Aapda Mitra, Local trekking organizations and Local Volunteers are conducting Search and Rescue operation.

  • SDMA & DDMA both control room are monitoring the situation 24X7.
