About the Disaster
Despite the expectation of La Nina and below-normal rainfall in the 2023 monsoon, several regions in India are experiencing devastating impacts from the monsoon season. Recently, Maharashtra, along with other south Indian coastal states, has been struggling with intense rainfall and its associated consequences. Specifically, six districts in Maharashtra, namely Ratnagiri, Raigad, Yavatmal, Jalgaon, Kolhapur, and Sangli, have been severely affected. Irshalwadi in Raigad district's Khalapur tehsil encountered a significant landslide that resulted in substantial damage to the area. Additionally, a landslide near Adoshi village in Raigad district has disrupted traffic flow towards the state capital. As a result, authorities are on high alert and mobilising efforts to address the challenges arising from the heavy precipitation.
Furthermore, four districts in Maharashtra are currently under a red alert, signifying severe weather conditions, while three other districts are under an orange alert for the upcoming days, indicating considerable caution in
