About the Disaster

Heavy rainfall is being experienced in almost all areas of North India. Within 12 days’ time, several states of India have received 2 per cent more of the rainfall received during the entire monsoon season, which has caused a series of flash floods, landslides, and associated devastation particularly in the mountainous states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The overall death toll is surging to 91 in the nearly 50 incidents of landslides and dozens of flash floods in the hilly region so far, and more than 1,000 roads remain unusable. Several people got isolated in different areas due to the serious disruption of infrastructure and communication. IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in the region for the next two days as well.
