Overnight on July 30th, heavy rainfall in the Wayanad district of Kerala, India, caused severe landslides. 296 people have been reported killed, while more than 200 have been injured and nearly 250 reported missing.
Based on data from Data for Good at Meta, areas directly to the north of the landslide area, around the villages of Meppadi, Thinapuran, and Muppainad, have recorded significant population increases on average over 9% above the pre-event baseline, over a short time-period. Relief centers have been set up in these areas to provide temporary services to people displaced by the landslides.”
