The passage of the tropical cyclone FENGAL over the Puducherry union territory and the Tamil Nadu state, south-eastern India on 1 December, caused very heavy rainfall, strong winds, storm surges, floods and landslides that have resulted in casualties and damage.
Media report, as of 2 December, three fatalities in the Chennai city, the capital of the Tamil Nadu state and a number of rescued families across the mentioned state. In addition, media also report hundreds of evacuated people and several rescued people across the Puducherry union territory.
Over the next 72 hours, more heavy rainfall is still forecast over south-eastern India.
