Hindu Mission Hospital- Tamil Nadu

Situation: Coastal areas of Kanchipuram district are affected. Their medical camp in a coastal village about 20 kms from Chennai was affected. The organisation lost Rs1 lac of equipments and a doctor has been admitted to ICU. Their medical team has gone to a town near Mahabalipuram of 2 lacs population, where about 10,000 people are injured. Main affected people in Chennai are fishermen.

Immediate Need: Clothes (blankets, bedsheets, towels, sarees, t-shirts, dhotis, Bermudas, nighties etc.), and medicine. Asked to provide money if possible, instead of donations in kind

Relief work: They have sent their medical team for relief at the request of the Collector. Plan to start medical camps in rural areas through their community programmes.They will distribute clothes if somebody donates.

The Banyan - Tamil Nadu

Situation: Cuddalore town is almost submergedTheir team was involved in retriving about 2,000 bodies from beach of Chennai. They'll send us a report that is going to be put up on Chennai online.

Immediate Need: Food, clothing (blankets)

Relief work: One of their vans is at the beach in Chennai for retrieving, another van is sent to Kalpakkam for rescue work. Distributed foodpackets to about 1,000 (Minimum Rs10 per packet) people.

Association for Sustainable Community Development (ASSCOD)- Tamil Nadu

Situation Analysis: 2,000 people in the coastal region have been evacuated. 2,500 lives have been lost in Nagapattanam.

Immediate Need: Food, clothing (blankets)

Relief work: Distribute clothes to 6,203 people (2,362 male, 2,445 female and 1,396 children). Plan to organise medical camps and counselling sessions.

ASSIST- Andhra Pradesh

Situation Analysis: Prakasham district is one of the most affected. 75 coastal villages of 10 mandals where fishermen were dwelling are damaged. Offical figure is- 38 deaths, but unofficially number could be quite high. About 1,000 people are missing and 10,000 people has been evacuated.

Immediate Need: FoodpacketsClothing (blankets)

Relief Work: Carrying out rescue operations.Plan to concentrate on relief operations for about 2,500 families covering 10,000 people (4,000 male, 3.800 female and 2,200 children) in 18 villages of Vetapalem, Kothapatnam and Tanguturu mandals. They will provide supplementary food to about 1,500 people in addition to the provision made by government, organise medical camps and distribute cloths & blankets.

HELP- Andhra Pradesh

Situation: In Prakasham district, 34 people have lost lives, 700 are missing, 53 villages have been affected and 4,000 people have been evacuated.Livelihoods are highly affected

Immediate Need: Foodpackets, Clothing for kids - will send us a mail on exact requirements.

Relief Work: Conducting meetings with Rotary and Lions Club to mobilise food, water and clothes. Uptil now, they have spent Rs10,000 in mobilising the resources. Need another Rs10,000 for relief work At present, they are mainly involved in sanitation work.

Association for Rural Development and Action Research (ARDAR)- Andhra Pradesh

Situation: Sea-level rose by 3 m above normal level and tidal waves hit the villages. Sea advanced by 100 to 200 m towards habitation in all 13 mandals of Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts. However, there are no casualties.It is estimated that boats and nets of about Rs35 lacs placed on the shore got swallowed or damaged, so they have lost their livelihoods. The damage is severe in the mandals of Polaki, Gara, Santhabommali and Ranasthalam in Srikakulam district and in Poosapati Rega and Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district.

Immediate Need: FoodpacketsClothes- blankets (# 1,260)Livelihoods- repair of boats and nets

Relief Activities: Involved in evacuation work.Propose to distribute clothes and foodpackets to 630 families of 9 villages of Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts.Restoration of livelihoods of 312 families: Repairs of 36 nets @ Rs2,000 per net and repairs of 78 boats @ Rs5,000 per boat.

Centre of Environment and Development (CEAD)- Andhra Pradesh

Situation: Government has banned fishing for 3 days, so people do not have livelihood source. Area, where CEAD is working, 650 families have lost their nets and boats. The repair of each will cost Rs1,500 to Rs2,000. Will be sending a report soon.

Immediate need: Clothes- blankets and plastics.Food for 3 days till they can start fishing.

Relief Activities: Involved in evacuating work.Plastic Sheets for 510 male, 540 female and 450 children.Provide 3 days ration to 1,000 families @ Rs150 per family
