Heavy rains and strong wind, stemming from the Northeast Monsoon and a low-pressure area over the east-central Arabian Sea, have resulted in localised flooding in the southern Indian states of Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu, as well as southern and western Sri Lanka.

4 deaths have been attributed to the rains and nearly 2, 500 people are displaced in 19 relief camps in Kerala and Karnataka. 5 died and 8,200 people have been affected in Sri Lanka.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has downgraded from a red to orange alert for Idukki, and a yellow alert is in place for all four other districts in Kerala.
