India: Special fund for victims of terrorism/insurgency

Attachments

The recent terrorist attack in Mumbai has once again impelled the NRI community to revitalize the Special Fund, established by IDRF following the 1999 Kargil War. The Fund was named MNIF (Martyrs for National Integration Fund). Thanks to the confidence in IDRF reposed by the community and the sustained dedication of our volunteers, IDRF has made grants totaling $331,875 towards the relief, rehabilitation and self-empowerment of the War/Terrorism/Militancy affected families of soldiers/security personnel, etc. (see below).

Unfortunately, the terrorist attacks have neither ended nor confined to the J&K State; and no region of India is immune anymore from the attacks of insurgents/militants/terrorists. Naturally, the brave soldiers/security personnel are called upon to confront the attackers and save innocent people's life and property. In discharging their sublime duty, they often have to sacrifice their own life; and sometimes inflicted by life-threatening injuries.

As concerned Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and People of Indian Origin (PIOs) along with our other personal friends, we feel morally obliged to immediately launch a Special Fundraising Campaign - aimed at supporting the dependants of the above-mentioned families. An immediate challenge before us is to raise funds for this purpose. In this context, we would like to reassure our benevolent donors that IDRF meticulously takes care of their hardearned money. We will also welcome more volunteer support for this purpose.
