SUMMARY OF IMPORTANT EVENTS AS ON 19.08.2009

RAINFALL/FLOOD SITUATION IN THE COUNTRY

ASSAM

- Moderate to heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls has been reported in some parts of the State during last 24 hours.

- About 6,56,742 people are reported to have been affected.

- 443 livestock have perished so far.

- 45 relief camps have been opened in the affected areas.

- 13 boats have been deployed for rescue and relief operations.

BIHAR

- Moderate to heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls at a few places has been reported in the State.

- 225 people have been evacuated so far.

- 02 relief camps have been opened in the affected areas.

- 130 health centers have also been opened.

- River Kosi is flowing in "High flood" situation at Basua in Supaul district.

ORISSA

- No significant rainfall has been reported in the State during last 24 hours.

- 19454 livestock have perished so far.

- About 3,84,000 people are reported to have been affected.

- About 1,26,000 ha cropped area are reported to have been affected.

- About 12547 houses have been damaged.

- About 62200 people have been evacuated so far.

KERALA

- No significant rainfall has been reported in the State during last 24 hours.

- 164 cattle/livestock have perished.

- About 12,20,593 people are reported to have been affected.

- 25906.24 ha cropped area are reported to have been affected.

- About 22233 houses have been damaged.

GUJARAT

-No significant rainfall has been reported in the State during last 24 hours.

- 439 livestock have perished.

- About 6,33,981 people are reported to have been affected.

- 2926 ha cropped area have affected.

- 6122 houses have been damaged.

KARNATAKA

- Moderate to Heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls at a few places has been reported in the State

- About 2,17,000 people in 252 villages and 14 districts are reported to have affected.

- 1161 cattle/livestock are reported to have been perished.

- 137230 ha cropped area have affected.

- 10877 houses have been damaged.

HUMAN DEATHS

- As per provisional information received from the affected States/UTs, only 04 human deaths have been reported by Uttarakhand State, thus raising the total death toll to 707 from 703.

NDMA

- Total 07 coys & 07 teams of NDRF Battalions have been deployed in the flood affected districts of Assam (04-teams), Bihar (01-team & 02 coys), Kerala (01-team), Maharashtra (04-coys & 01-team) and West Bengal (01-coy) for rescue and relief operations.

- The upper air cyclonic circulation over northwest Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Uttarakhand persists and extends upto 0.9 Km above mean sea level. Under its influence, fairly widespread rainfall activity is likely over north Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand during next 48 hours with isolated heavy fall during next 24 hours.

- The upper air cyclonic circulation over Kerala and neighbourhood persists and extends upto mid-tropospheric levels. Under its influence, fairly widespread rainfall is likely over south Konkan, Goa, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Coastal & south interior Karnataka and south Tamilnadu during next 2-3 days.

- Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is also likely over northeastern states, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim and Bihar during next 2-3 days.

- There are 01 High flood and 13 Moderate flood situation sites in the country.
