SUMMARY OF IMPORTANT EVENTS AS ON 12.08.2009

RAINFALL/FLOOD SITUATION IN THE COUNTRY

BIHAR

- No significant rainfall has been reported in the State.

- About 3.11 lakh people in 248 villages are reported to have been affected.

- 8725 people have been evacuated so far.

ORISSA

- No significant rainfall has been reported in the State.

- 7127 houses have been damaged.

- 62200 people have been evacuated so far.

- 64346 people are accommodated in 80 relief camps.

KERALA

- No significant rainfall has been reported in the State.

- 123 human deaths have been reported in the State so far.

- 164 cattle/livestock have perished.

- About 1220532 people are reported to have been affected.

- 25906.24 ha cropped area are reported to have been affected.

- 22209 houses have been damaged.

GUJARAT

- No significant rainfall has been reported in the State.

- 437 livestock have perished.

- About 6,33,981 people are reported to have been affected.

- 2926 ha cropped area have affected.

- 6092 houses have been damaged.

- 24131 people are accommodated in 95 relief camps.

KARNATAKA

- Moderate to heavy rainfall has been reported in some parts of the State during last 24 hours.

- 1161 cattle/livestock are reported to have been perished.

- 137230 ha cropped area have affected.

- 10877 houses have been damaged.

HUMAN DEATHS

- As per provisional information received from the affected States/UTs, 14 human deaths (Orissa-07, Bihar-04, West Bengal-01 and Kerala-02) have been reported, thus raising the total death toll to 692 from 678.

NDMA

- Total 06 coys & 07 teams of NDRF Battalions have been deployed in the flood affected districts of Assam (03-teams), Bihar (01-coy & 03 teams), Kerala (01-team), Maharashtra (04-coys) and West Bengal (01-coy) for rescue and relief operations.

IMD

- The upper air cyclonic circulation now lies over north Chhattisgarh and adjoining northeast Madhya Pradesh & southeast Uttar Pradesh and extends upto mid-tropospheric level. Under its influence, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy to very heavy fall is likely over Vidarbha and Madhya Pradesh and isolated heavy over Chhattisgarh during next 48 hours. Subsequently, the rainfall activity also likely to extend to East Rajasthan and Gujarat region.

- Fairly widespread rainfall activity is also likely over northeastern states and adjoining east India with isolated heavy to very heavy fall over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh during next 3-4 days.
