NATURE OF HAZARD: FLOODS

Due to very heavy rains over last few days, a number of districts of Gujarat(7), Maharashtra(12)and Andhra Pradesh(16)are flooded. As a result a number of rivers are flowing above danger levels Tapti River has crossed ever attained Highest Flood Level (HFL)., at present as all communication (wireless) channels are cut off w in Surat Division.100 villages are affected in Surat district. More than 50% of the submerged . In flow of water in Ukai dam is 1,000,000cusec where as outflow is 900,000cusec.

IMD forecast :Heavy to very heavy rainfall at scattered places over South Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka during next 1-2 days. Isolated heavy to very heavy falls are also likely over Gujarat region, southeast Rajasthan, North Madhya Maharashtra, West Madhya Pradesh, North Konkan(including Mumbai), Himachal Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Jammu & Kashmir and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

CURRENT SITUATION:

MAHARASHTRA

1.Nanded - 84 villages are flood-affected.

Hingoli - Two talukas and 34 villages therein are flood-affected

Jalna -Three talukas and 17 villages therein are flood-affected. Rains have stopped. However, release of water from Jayakwadi reservoir is likely to affect 35 villages by night. Parbhani - Nine talukas and 172 villages therein are flood-affected. Water level in Dudhana River is receding. Water level in Godavari River is being watched as it is likely to rise. However, road to Aurangabad is functional.

2.Amaravati division

Buldhana - 13 talukas and 80 villages thereof are flood-affected

Yawatmal - 11 talukas and 65 villages thereof are flood-affected.14 villages of Wani and Zari Zamni taluka are surrounded by flood water. In Vilayata (Ghatanji), 400 persons are to be evacuated by boats. Washim - Two talukas and 23 villages thereof are flood-affected Water release from Pench-Takli dam has stopped and therefore water level is receding. Akola - Fifty villages of seven talukas are flood-affected

3.Nagpur division -

Chandrapur - Four talukas and 12 villages thereof are flood-affected. Release of water from Irai dam has caused flooding. Gadchiroli - Four talukas in six villages thereof are flood-affected

4. Nashik division -

Jalgaon - Eight talukas and 100 villages thereof are flood-affected. Release of 4.5 lakh cusec water had caused flooding in Tapi River and thereby causing flood in Jalgaon. In Bhusawal, 50 persons have been encircled by flood water, but they are safe. As of now,water level has started receding.

Situation in other districts of Nashik division is under control

ANDHRA PRADESH

Vishakhapatnam : Vishakhapatnaam district is back to normal.

Khamam district: People are still in the camps. In all there are 177 camps which are supplied with food, water and medicines..

East Godavari:.. Shift to the administrative measures

West Godavari: Vizianagram : The district is limping back to Normalcy.3camps are on still as there is slight water logging in the irrigation project area.

DAMAGE DETAILS: MAHARASHTRA

1. Aurangabad division

Nanded : Seven persons are reported dead. 17,283 families involving 45,000 persons have been affected. Hingoli :347 families have been evacuated. Jalna: So far five persons have died in floods and two are missing. Parbhani: Five persons have been reported dead so far. Road to Nanded is under water.

2. Amaravati division

Buldhana -4,000 persons have been affected. Three persons are reported dead.

Yawatmal -11 talukas and 65 villages thereof are flood-affected. People need to be airlifted in Devsari(Umerkhed taluka),village Juad and Dhanora. Fourteen villages of Wani and Zari Zamni taluka are surrounded by flood water Washim - Two talukas and 23 villages thereof are flood-affected.3, 690 persons have been shifted to safe locations. Two persons are reported dead. Five to seven villages have been cut off by road 17 villages from the bank of Penganga River have been evacuated to safer locations. Nine deaths are reported. Akola - Fifty villages of seven talukas are flood-affected. 2,000 families have been displaced. Ten deaths have been reported.

3. Nagpur division -

Chandrapur - Four talukas and 12 villages thereof are flood-affected.3, 000 persons from eight villages have been displaced. Two deaths have been reported. Gadchiroli - Four talukas in six villages thereof are flood-affected. 224 persons have been displaced. One person is reported dead.

4. Nashik division -

Jalgaon - Eight talukas and 100 villages thereof are flood-affected. administrative measure 12, 000 persons have been evacuated .Eight deaths are reported due to fall of wall.
