South West Monsoon

The South-west monsoon has been active since June across the country on the whole. As per the IMD forecast valid till 23 July, enhanced rainfall activity with scattered heavy to very falls are likely to continue over Bihar, West Bengal & Sikkim and northeastern States. The current meteorological analysis suggests that fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall are likely over Kerala, Coastal Karnataka and Lakshadweep during next 48 hrs. Under the influence of an approaching westerly trough, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall activity is likely over Western Himalayan region and adjoining northern plains from tomorrow onwards. AFFECTED STATES

- Assam: affected districts and villages affected: Cachar(22), Karimganj( 84), Barpeta(2), Hailakandi(20), Dhemaji (145), Lakhimpur(122), Morigaon(124), Darrang(6), Sonitpur(11), and Nalbari(3). During past 48 hrs 9113 person have been affected of the total 3, 70,143 affected populations since the month of June, while in Lakhimpur (53705 persons) and Dhemaji (40,000 persons) since 12 of July. The railway line and NH-52 road sections has been breached at several places near Samarajan and breaches have development along the embankments in Karimganj(4) Cacahr (1), Hailakandi(,1) Sivasagar(1), Barpeta(1), Dhemaji (2)and Lakhimpur (8)

- Kerala: rivers flowing above warning levels have been reported in districts of Kottayam, Malappuram , Kozhikode, Thissur and Kannur of the 14 affected districts , 49 talukas and 341villages. During the last 24 hrs 45507 persons have been affected. Of the 567398 population that were affected since June. 10 deaths have been reported. 32 houses have been fully damaged and 5266 houses partially damaged.

- Arunachal Pradesh: Affected districts and sub-division are West & East Kameng (Nafra, Thirizno), Lohit, East & West Siang (Boleng), Papum Pare (Doimukh) and Triap (Longding) Districts. In West Kameng landslide and washed out approach of roads has disrupted movement, while in Papum pare landslide and erosion of drains, wash out of retaining walls, culverts and boundary walls has been reported from different locations between Paapu Nallah to Yupia and in East Kameng due landslide wash out of culverts, retaining walls and drainage channels has damaged the road between Pachi-Lozi-Dipu-Pipu and Seppa-Tajo areas.
