Continuous down pour during last few days over the state has resulted in floods in five districts of Arunachal Pradesh. The districts are East Kameng, East Siang, Lower Dibang valley, Lohit and Changlang.
The worst affected districts are East Kameng and Changlang and the situation remains grim in these districts, although there has been very less rainfall over the state yesterday. These floods have caused massive damages to roads and electric power stations in the state.

SITUATION IN AFFECTED DISTRICTS:
East Kameng: The district experienced a flash flood on 5th July and since then situation remains grim. The Seijosa circle was totally marooned as river Pakke changed it’s course and has caused excessive damage to govt. and private buildings. Bridges including suspension bridges have been washed away. Three persons have been reported dead so far.
East Siang: The worst affected is the Mebo circle and large areas of Borguli, Seram, Namsing and Mer are under water. One Bailey bridge and one RCC Bridge have been washed away and the road link between Dolung and Pashighat had been disrupted due to landslides at various places. Around 30,000 people are anticipated to have been affected by the ongoing floods. One person has been reported dead and one person is missing.
Lower Dibang Valley: Large nos. of villages has been inundated by river Datung and Dibang in circle. Power station s has been washed away.
Lohit: All the 6 administrative units namely Teju, Sonpura, Madhevpur, Chowkham, Namsai and Piyong have been badly affected. One of the rivers named Naodehing changed its course towards Jengthu river on 12th July and all villages under Piyong circle, Namsai circle have completely got submerged.
Changlang: The worst affected are the Diyum, Bordumsa, Kharsang and Jairampur circles. Around 24,000 people have been rendered homeless. The Namchik and Katang rivers are flowing above danger level and with the increase in the water level further, Jairam Township will get submerged.
GOVERNMENT MEASURES:
- The chief minister has made an Aerial survey of the flood affected areas along with the Chief Secretary, Relief Commissioner and other senior Govt. Officials.
- Rescue and evacuation operations are on in war footing in the marooned villages and victims are being shifted to safer places and relief camps.

RECENT FLOODS IN ARUNACHAL PRADESH
The Brahmaputra, India's major river enters Arunachal Pradesh from Tibet and flows into Assam from where it goes down to Bangladesh before falling into the Bay of Bengal. During 2002 (As on 27.08.2002); As per report received from the State Government out of 15 , 14 districts affected by flash flood/landslide during June and July, 2002. About 20,000 population affected and 7 houses damaged. 11 human lives lost including 7 Army personals and 20 cattle lost. Estimated value of damage to public properties is Rs. 346.6 million.
During 2003 (As on 14-07- 2003): 9 districts have been affected in varying degrees due to floods and landslides due to heavy rains between 9th to 14th July. State Government had instructed districts authorities to take necessary rescue & relief measures in the affected areas.
