India – Severe Weather Update (ECHO, ASDMA, IMD, Local Media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 5 July 2016)

  • Heavy rain has continued to affect the country, especially the states of Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, over the past few days causing more floods and landslides.

  • Due to incessant rain since 2 July, Assam is experiencing its second period of serious floods for 2016. An estimated 57 000 people in more than 100 villages have been affected. 1 500 hectares of crops have been destroyed.

  • As of 5 July, the death toll due to floods and landslides in the states of Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh has risen to at least 40 people.

  • Over the next 24 h moderate to locally very heavy rain may continue to affect the north-western, northern, north-eastern, central and eastern parts of the country, including the ones already affected.
