India – Severe Weather Update (ECHO, ASDMA, IMD, Local Media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 5 July 2016)

Heavy rain has continued to affect the country, especially the states of Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, over the past few days causing more floods and landslides.

Due to incessant rain since 2 July, Assam is experiencing its second period of serious floods for 2016. An estimated 57 000 people in more than 100 villages have been affected. 1 500 hectares of crops have been destroyed.

As of 5 July, the death toll due to floods and landslides in the states of Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh has risen to at least 40 people.

Over the next 24 h moderate to locally very heavy rain may continue to affect the north-western, northern, north-eastern, central and eastern parts of the country, including the ones already affected.
