India - Severe weather (NDMI, IMD) (ECHO Daily Flash of 28 May 2025)

  • Heavy rainfall, strong winds and thunderstorms have been affecting India in the last 24 hours, causing severe weather-related incidents that resulted in casualties and damage.
  • According to the Indian Disaster Management Division (NDMI), as of 27 May, a total of 11 people died due to severe weather-related incidents, including four in Kerala, three in Karnataka (western India), two in Himachal Pradesh, and two in Uttarakhand (northern India). In addition, 121 people have been displaced in six evacuation centres in Kerala, and a total of 662 houses have been damaged across the country.
  • Over the next 24 hours, more heavy to very rainfall and thunderstorms are forecast over the whole country, red alerts for extremely heavy rain have been issued over Karnataka, Kerala, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Nagaland states.
