Heavy rainfall, causing landslides and flash floods, has affected the Jammu and Kashmir region, northern India, since 17 April, resulting in several fatalities and severe damage.
As of 21 April, media reports indicate that at least five people were killed, one was injured, and more than 100 people were rescued. Several buildings were damaged or destroyed, roads were closed, and power outages occurred, with rescue operations still ongoing as of 21 April. Schools were closed on 21 April as a precautionary measure.
Only moderate rain is expected on 22-23 April over the north of India, with a forecast of a thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and strong winds on 24 April.
