Heavy rainfall, strong winds, thunderstorms, hailstorms and lightning affected north-eastern India (in particular the Bihar state and the neighbouring Uttar Pradesh state) over the period from 4 to 12 April, causing several severe weather-related incidents (mainly due to lightning, thunderstorms and strong winds) that have resulted in an increased number of casualties and severe damage.
As of 14 April, media report a total of 102 fatalities, 82 of which occurred across most of the Bihar state and 20 in the Uttar Pradesh state, where the worst affected districts are Firozabad, Siddharth Nagar, and Sitapur.
Over the next 48 hours, more severe weather is still forecast over most of the Bihar state.
