Heavy rainfall, strong winds, thunderstorms and lightning continued to affect several states of north-eastern India over the last few days, triggering landslides and causing floods, flash floods and a number of severe weather-related incidents that have resulted in an increased number of casualties and damage.
The National Emergency Response Centre (NDMI) reports, as of 4 June, 42 fatalities, of whom 11 fatalities were in Arunachal Pradesh, 11 in Assam, eight in Manipur, seven in Meghalaya, three in Sikkim, and two in Nagaland.
The same source also reports more than 46,150 evacuated people in 297 relief camps across the aforementioned states and the Tripura state. The worst affected is the Assam state, with 31,676 evacuated people and more than 530,000 affected people.
Over the next 96 hours, more heavy rainfall with locally very heavy rainfall is forecast over most of north-eastern India.
