India – Severe Weather (Assam State Disaster Management Authority, India Meteorological Department, Local Media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 7 June 2017)

  • Severe weather, including heavy rain and thunderstorms has been affecting areas of the Assam, Nagaland, Manipur and Jharkhand states of India in the past days.

  • According to local media, as of 7 May at 7.00 UTC, six people died, of which two by floods in Phek district (Nagaland State) and four more in Giridih district (Jharkhand State) due to lightening strikes. According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority, as of 7 June at 7.00 UTC, over 100 000 people are affected by floods in Assam.

  • Over the next 24h, moderate to locally heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to affect the northern, northeastern, central and eastern states.
