Heavy rains continue to affect several Indian states in the last few weeks, particularly Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Assam, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Jammu and Kashmir, Nagaland, and Tripura states, causing widespread floods and landslides that resulted in casualties and damage.
As of 2 June, the Indian Disaster Management Division (NDMI) and media reported 21 deaths in the past 24 hours, including seven in Kerala, four in Himachal Pradesh, and three in Sikkim, bringing the total death toll to 36. So far, 3,082,302 have been affected across the country.
The Government of Assam has reported that 31,212 people are staying in relief camps, while approximately 154,000 individuals receiving assistance in relief distribution centres.
Over the next 24 hours, more rainfall is forecast over most of India.
