India: Rupees 100 crore released to Karnataka for flood relief

The Centre has released Rs.100 crore to Karnataka for immediate relief and rescue operations in the flood-affected areas. Of this, Rs.43 crore is the second instalment of the Central share of the Calamity Relief Fund(CRF) for the current year and Rs.57 crore as an ad hoc release from the National Calamity Contingency Fund(NCCF). The Karnataka Government's request for immediate release of Rs.100 crore was accepted by the Government of India, keeping in view the magnitude of the situation caused by heavy rains and floods.

Karnataka experienced heavy rains in the last two weeks. All major reservoirs in the State have been filled causing floods in the major rivers. Krishna basin is the worst affected.15 out of the 27 districts and 1290 villages have been affected by floods. 119 persons are stated to have lost their lives.
