1. OFFICIAL REPORTS SAY 63 BODIES WERE FOUND AT AVALANCHE SITE, HOWEVER UNOFFICIAL ESTIMATES INDICATE 250 DEAD. SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO HAD BEEN TRAPPED IN THEIR VEHICLES WERE RESCUED. 400 PERSONS WHO HAD TAKEN SHELTER IN JAWAHAR TUNNEL HAVE NOW BEEN EVACUATED TO SAFER SITES. A POLICE STATION WAS HIT BY AN AVALANCHE AND 6 WERE KILLED.

2. INDIAN AIR FORCE HELICOPTERS HAVE AIR-DROPPED RESCUE/RELIEF MATERIALS. INDIAN AUTHORITIES CONTINUING SEARCH AND RESCUE.

3. INDIAN GOVT DISPATCHED SENIOR GOVT OFFICIALS TO AFFECTED SITE TO INVESTIGATE CAUSES OF HUMAN LOSSES.

4. UNDP OFFICE IN NEW DELHI IN CONTACT WITH INDIAN GOVT AND MONITORING SITUATION.

5. INDIAN GOVT HAS NOT APPEALED FOR INTERNATIONAL ASSISTANCE.
