1. The UN Resident Coordinator in New Dehli informs that, as per official estimates, 156 people have been killed in the State of Bihar due to monsoon rains during the last two and a half months. The overall position of the loss incurred during the current monsoon season is indicated below. The situation in almost all the states is now back to normal.

2. While the state Governments have sought Central Government assistance for reconstruction activities, no appeal has been made for any international assistance. The UN Resident Coordinator remains in touch with the authorities to monitor the situation.

++ The final status of Jammu and Kashmir has not yet been agreed upon by India and Pakistan.
