India - Floods in Northeast (DG ECHO, DG ECHO Partners, ASDMA, NDMI, Sphere India, IMD) (ECHO Daily Flash of 6 June 2025)

  • Heavy rains have worsened the flood situation in northeastern states with worst affected Assam and Manipur, affecting over 560,072 persons in Assam and 164,789 in Manipur. As per cumulative figures reported by the Indian Disaster Management Division (NDMI) on 5 June 2025, 50 persons lost their lives, 1,441,247 people affected and over 36,620 houses damaged across northeastern states.
  • Several states, including Mizoram, Manipur, and Sikkim, have been hit by massive landslides, causing widespread damage and disruption in the region.
  • Rivers across Assam, including the Brahmaputra, remain swollen and are flowing above the danger level at several points. State Authorities and humanitarian organizations have ramped up relief efforts to provide aid and support to those affected by the landslides and floods in the region.
  • The Indian Meteorological Department predicted decrease in intense rainfall across northeastern states.
