Heavy rains have severely impacted seven Northeast Indian states over the past week - Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim, Meghalaya, and Tripura - causing widespread floods and landslides which resulted in severe damage to infrastructure, homes, and agricultural land. Road and rail connectivity have reported being disrupted, leaving residents and tourists stranded.
As of 1 June, approximately 409,261 people were impacted, while 4,600 houses were damaged across the impacted states. Media reported at least 34 casualties as of 2 June. Thousands of people have been evacuated and are currently housed in relief camps, with armed forces and disaster response teams deployed in the worst-affected areas to provide aid and assistance.
The situation remains critical, with weather forecasts indicating continued rainfall in the coming days.
