India - Floods and landslide in North Eastern States (DG ECHO, Live Mint, Indian Media, Assam State Disaster Management Authority) (ECHO Daily Flash of 19 June 2023)

  • Torrential rains continued in the states of Assam and Sikkim. The Indian Meteorological Department, IMD issued heavy to very heavy rainfall warning until 20 June in several Northeast states, including West Bengal and Sikkim.
  • Flood situation in Assam remains grim due to heavy rainfall across several districts of Assam.
  • According to the daily flood report of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on 18 June, more than 33,412 people are affected due to floods across 142 villages in several districts, no casualties reported thus far.
  • Massive landslides triggered by heavy rainfall in West Sikkim district damaged nearly 100 houses and swept away bridges.
  • The Indian Army rescued 300 tourists who were stranded in North Sikkim district due to landslides and roadblocks.
