New Delhi (dpa) - The monsoon fury continued unabated in India, with more states reporting flood-like situation and forecasts of heavy rains in the coming days.
At least 124 people were killed in the western Indian state of Gujarat, where nearly 70 per cent of the area is submerged underwater.
Another 22 people were killed due to electrocution or mudslides and drowning due to heavy rain in the three states of Uttaranchal, Orissa and Maharashtra. In all, seven states have been affected by heavy rains.
The central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh has also come in the grip of torrential rains. Heavy rains over the past three days have inundated many low lying areas, paralyzing daily life.
The situation remains grim. Indian Meterological Department officials said Sunday that more showers are expected during the next few days. dpa sk tl
