The Relief team left Tilwara (28th morning) for Gaurikund to assess the 19 affected villages. The normal route from Tilwara to Gaurikund was just 45 kms uphill. But the incessant rains and flash flood have caused several landslides, blocking the road. The Relief team had to take a round-a-about route covering a distance of 130 kms to reach Phata, an eight hour drive.
The villagers living around Phata area depended on pilgrims for their livelihood. Stopping enroute for tea at Basukedar, the Relief team met Laxman, a shop owner. He narrated how he fled for his life when the flood came. People panicked and those who tried to save their belongings were washed way in the gigantic deluge.
The next day, the team set out to survey the worst affected villages in Kedarnath area. The team decided to visit Rail by foot which was 5km down hill from Phata. The team walked 2 kms downhill to reach Rail. The villagers had to cross a bridge over a tributary of Mandakini river to reach Phata, Gaurikund or Kedarnath for their work everyday and to procure materials from the market. This bridge was now washed away by the flood. Eight people from the village of Rail walked through the steep jungle covering a distance of 90 kms to reach Phata to procure food and other materials and send to their village. They tied the food, house hold materials and messages in a rope and sent over the natural equivalent ingredient in cialis river during the day to the 24 stranded families. Mathura Singh and Kamala Devi are from Badasu village. Their lives were shattered upon hearing the death of their two sons. Their sons were working in Kedarnath to carry the pilgrims on mules. The couple were preparing to get their sons married in the near future. Inconsolable Kamala Devi narrated with tears, “ I have labored and brought up my children and expected that they will take care of us in the future, but now we are left alone in this old age”.
EFICOR team contacted village sarpanches of 17 villages and collected the list of beneficiaries. The team also met Prof. K.S.Rana, Nodal Officer Relief, SDM and Tahsildar to reconcile with their list of beneficiaries for relief distribution. Mr. Rana assured to 2nd violation of probation for dui shift the relief materials to Gaurikund by chopper as there was no road access. We need to make prior plan for the same.

However, the team is also concerned for the safety and security of the women staff. On June 30, the team proceeded to assess the worst affected villages namely, Triyoginarayan, Gaurikund and Tosi. Seeing the need in Rail village, EFICOR team, approached PRAHAR team (a charitable Trust from Nagpur) for the rescue operation. PRAHAR team agreed to set up temporary transportation for the people from the village to the other side of the river the next day. Since our Manager Mr. Harshan also worked in Nagpur earlier, it eased the process.
The following are the list of the villages which were surveyed. The coloured portions have been cross verified from the village Sarpanch. The rest had to be cross-verified and the process is on.
On July 1, the Team could not do anything as they were waiting for PRAHAR team to come and carry out the demo. Mr. Harshan K. Y. and Mr. Ramesh Khanduri left on July1st morning to Dehra Dun to attend the coordination meeting with the network along with the headquarters team and arrived late at night after a 13 hour of journey.
On July 2, our team at the field provided logistic support for the PRAHAR team to carry out a demo of bringing stranded people of Rail village across the river. A sick person was brought from the other side for treatment. The PRAHAR team is appealing to the District Magistrate to obtain equipments and permission for building a temporary bridge.
EFICOR Team from Headquarters comprising of Rev. Kennedy Dhanabalan (Executive Director), Mr. Ramesh Babu (Director—Programmes), Mr. Pradeep Nanda (Senior Officer—Finance) and Mr. Edwin Raju Kurapati (World Relief Staff) arrived in Dehradun. They were hosted by New Theological College an Offshoot of Bharat Susamachar Samiti (BSS). The Coordination meeting was held at Kinderhilfswerk Society office.
EFICOR is partnering with Community Health Global Network—Uttarakhand Cluster a network of 50 NGOs with active participation of Kinderhilfswerk Society (KHW), BSS, Emmanuel Hospital Association (EHA), AG church/Rupantaran and Medical Ambassadors. The support the network extended was overwhelming and beyond our expectations. BSS is providing two rooms to accommodate four persons for the next two months. They are also providing 7-10 volunteers at any given time to work in the field. They are also providing space for a ware house to store relief materials in their campus.
KHW has given office space to EFICOR with a provision to share a desktop. They have also seconded Mr. Ramesh Khanduri their staff to work with EFICOR for two months. EHA has volunteered to provide medical team to work in Rudraprayag district. Medical Ambassadors came forward to provide volunteers to military cash advance colorado work with us in Rudraprayag district. Gopal Singh and ex-army personnel from Badasu village owned a teashop in Ganurpani near Kedarnath. His two school going sons Ankit and Rohit were helping him in his business. He and his sons ran to the forest for safety when the flood came. Searching for food and water in the forest, the children consumed poisonous flowers called ‘Brahma’ flower’ and both became unconscious and died in the forest. While trying to seek help to save his sons he found others also battling for their lives. He left his two dead sons to help out others and providing them with water. Gopal Singh shocked at the flash flood said “It is unlucky for my family and others who lost their loved ones.”
