Flooding after heavy monsoon rains in the Ganges and Brahmaputra basins are affecting Central and Eastern regions of Nepal as well as the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Sikkim, West Bengal, Assam and Meghalaya. 7 people are reported dead and 1,700 displaced in Nepal, with more than 100 dead in Uttar Pradesh. Further rainfall has been forecast. This follows severe flooding in Uttarakhand in June with more than 600 confirmed casualties and 5,700 presumed dead, and a further 50 dead in neighbouring western Nepal.

Typhoon Soulik left two dead and one missing in Taiwan Province of China on 13 Jul and a further 3 dead in Guangdong Province on the mainland before it was downgraded to a tropical depression on 14 Jul. Meanwhile, Xinhua also reports ongoing heavy rains in the provinces of Sichuan and Yunnan, in the south; Henan, in the central part of the country; and Shaanxi, in the northwest. 43 deaths have been reported in Sichuan and 26 in Shaanxi.

The 6.2M earthquake which struck Aceh province in North West Sumatra on 2 Jul caused 39 deaths, injured 2,500 and displaced more than 50,000 people, according to the Govt of Indonesia. 16,500 houses and public buildings were damaged. The emergency phase is due to end on 17 Jul, with provision of further assistance as necessary.

A dengue fever outbreak in the Lao PDR, with as many as 17,500 reported cases in all provinces, has so far caused 62 reported deaths, with provinces in the far north-west, centre and far south of the country worst affected. The situation is expected to worsen as the rainy season is just starting and previous epidemics have historically peaked in Aug/Sep. The Lao Govt is working on a response plan.
