65 killed in cyclonic storm in Bihar

In Bihar, death toll due to the cyclonic storm goes up to 65; 2000 others injured; relief and rescue operations stepped up; Centre assures all help to the storm-affected state.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the loss of lives in Bihar. PM Modi spoke to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and offered all assistance from the Centre to the state government.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh also spoke to the state Chief Minister and assured him all help from centre. Several districts of North West Bihar have been hit by a severe storm on Tuesday night that claimed at least 42 lives while over 2,000 people have been injured.

The relief and rescue operations have been stepped up in the cyclone affected areas of the state.

The storm with the speed of nearly 65 km per hour descended from Nepal hitting Purnia, Madhepura, Saharsa, Madhubani, Samastipur, Darbhanga and Samastipur. In its wake it has left uprooted several thousand trees, damaging power lines and destroying thousands of huts and standing crops.
