At its session today the Government approved subsidies of HUF 3.1 billion for owners of property damaged by floods or standing water, András Batiz told the press. The Spokesman reported that the damage assessment completed has revealed that the floods of the Danube and the Tisza and the high standing water levels have damaged a total of 10500 residential properties. The non-repayable grants will be disbursed to the municipalities, whose local governments will determine the amounts to be paid out. Grounds for differentiation will include whether the property had any insurance cover and whether or not it can be restored. András Batiz emphasised the possibility of local governments to add further funds to the sums provided by the Government, should they see it necessary in view of the local conditions. The Spokesman explained that, of the 10500 properties, 746 were damaged by the Tisza, 607 by the Danube floods, and 8975 by high standing water.
