Operational Updates

  • WFP successfully delivered the first round of school feeding assistance in partnership with the local private donor Fundación Terra, reaching 4,592 schoolchildren across the departments of Choluteca, Valle, Francisco Morazán, Colón, Cortés, Yoro, and Atlántida, providing nutritious meals for a duration of 60 days.
  • Moreover, WFP distributed 20 days’ worth of fresh rations—including vegetables, fruits, eggs, and milk—to complement the basic ration provided by the Government of Honduras. This assistance benefited a total of 30,038 schoolchildren across the departments of Choluteca, Copán, Ocotepeque, and Lempira, with funding from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and France.
  • In April, as part of WFP’s resilience and livelihoods programme, 4,260 people in the departments of Atlántida, Colón and Gracias a Dios received food assistance through commodity vouchers under the project funded by the Peacebuilding Fund. This support aims to strengthen livelihoods that ensure the right to food and improve food and nutrition security.
  • WFP supported a total of 9,910 people with cash-based transfers in the municipalities of Piraera, Virginia, and San Francisco (Lempira), with funding from USAID's Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance. These transfers allowed families affected by recurrent drought and economic hardship to meet their essential needs and to support the restoration of assets and activities to improve the livelihoods of communities.
  • WFP issued parametric microinsurance certificates to 579 farmers as part of its microinsurance component, progressing steadily toward the target of certifying 1,910 farmers by May. This initiative supports smallholder farmers in managing climate-related risks—especially drought—by offering financial protection and promoting investment in sustainable agricultural practices. Additionally, WFP provided comprehensive guidance on the insurance’s operation, ensuring farmers fully understand the terms, coverage, and claims process, thereby enabling them to effectively safeguard their livelihoods against drought and other climate-related hazards.
